Handy update 1

Author:

I’m back so here’s an update about handy. It’s still amazing. I’ve used codex for the past couple weeks or so to make some changes. A lot of the features are still in testing. And anything I complain about here It’s based off of things that I’ve broken. The base application is perfect for casual use I just can’t help myself.

Things I added:

Custom theme picker Not necessary, but now you can pick whatever color theme you want. It doesn’t actually carry over to the app icon itself. Just something I might change. I had to do some tweaking to some of the elements that made it harder to read when the text takes on the theme.

Terminal mode Strips out all the capitalization and punctuation so that you can somewhat use this in the terminal without the formatting messing it up. It definitely works in CMD, but I plan on using this on Linux. I haven’t tested it with the dozens of terminals that it can be used with.

Continuation mode This one’s incredibly frustrating to implement as is if you start a dictation session and try to make an edit using a separate dictation session in the middle of a sentence. It automatically capitalizes and I was trying to figure out a way to keep it from doing that.

AI voice toggle for the audio playback because I can’t stand my own voice. I don’t have much use for the audio playback as is but, I was thinking about a hotkey that will just read me back what I typed. I was hoping it would make it easier to make edits if need be. But as of right now I only have the AI selection. It doesn’t save your preference, which is something I also might change. So the default is user voice.

Number dictation toggle I was getting annoyed when I would say the number. It would type out the actual word and not just the digits. So I made a toggle for that. Still need some testing. As of now I don’t think it works if you say the number in the middle of a sentence. It has to be in its own transcription session.

Experimental tag to the features that I added myself with a dedicated toggle switch to disable all of them. I was getting confused about which features were in the base application and what features I had added. So now there’s no more confusion.

Funny enough, they release an update and I wasn’t paying attention. So I clicked update and it basically reverted me back to the base application with some new changes. So I added a confirmation letting them know they were on an experimental version.

So yeah, once again, I’m just really happy with this project and really thankful for the original creator. I still need to do some personal changes for my custom Linux setup. My version was having some serious issues. Well once I uninstalled it and installed the base version, it worked just fine. It would just be nice to have some of my features implemented. But at the end of the day, the software was great and would work just fine as is.
